This collection of African-American Newspapers contains a wealth of information about cultural life and history during the 1800s. It also contains large numbers of early biographies, vital statistics, essays and editorials, poetry and prose, and advertisements, all of which embody the African-American experience.This database will ultimately contain the complete text of seven African-American newspapers published in the United States during the 19th century, including Freedoms Journal, The Colored American, The National Era, and The Christian Recorder. The Kaiser Index to Black Resources is drawn from the handwritten notes of the staff of the Schomburg Center at New York Public Library. It indexes journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, pamphlets and reports published between 1948-1986.The actual clipping file is available in Wilson Library Reference, 1st floor, in reference microfiche sets 34 and 34A, covering 1924-1974 and 1975-1988.
